During my recent trip to Alaska, I had the pleasure of photographing the Alaska Maternity Portrait Photographic Experience of Jessie and Brendan in Hope, Alaska. Both are dear friends to my brother and his family in Anchorage and over the last five years, I’ve enjoyed getting to know these two wonderful people.

Jessie and Brendan have been married since 2010 and their passion for a full life in Alaska lead them to purchase land outside of Hope, Alaska where they have been building their own home together since 2011.

Now as that passion project comes to a conclusion, a new journey is about to begin for them. In two weeks, these two are expecting the arrival of their first child.

To commemorate this special time, these two reached out to me about making some maternity photographs for them. For our Alaska Maternity Portrait Photographic Experience, we decided to check out their favorite walking trail near their home that looks out over the Turnagain Arm and the Chugach State Park landscape.

Here are some of their favorites from our photo experience. I can not wait to meet the new addition to their family! Congrats you two! -M

Horses-Fall-Headwaters-State-Park-Family-Portrait-Photography

The other day I was out at the Missouri Headwaters for a family portrait photography session of Eliza and Drew. For this Three Forks, Montana family, there is no better way to spend a day than when they are trail riding with their young daughter Evelyn, horses, and dogs outside. We decided to incorporate all of their loves into one photography session timed perfectly with the Montana Fall colors out at the state park. We had a great time exploring the area. Here are some favorite photos from their portrait session. What a cute family! Happy Fall you guys! -M

Bozeman Engagement Photographer Hyalite Canyon couple portrait

Capitalizing on a recent break in the rainy weather, I met up with Allison and Matt for their Hyalite Canyon Bozeman Montana Couples Portrait Photographic Experience.

Over these last few months, I’ve really enjoyed getting to know these two.

They recently moved to Bozeman from Davis, Montana where they attended school as Ecology grad students. Back during my time working in California newspapers, I too lived in the city of Davis. As we got to know each other, we quickly realized we had many overlapping UC Davis friends and shared leisure activities. We quickly hit it off and had a blast exploring the scenic local landscape during our photo session. These two are great.

And their big wedding day is quickly approaching. I’m looking forward to documenting and celebrating them at their Springhill Pavilion wedding day in a few weeks! -M

I had the pleasure of photographing the Norris Montana Couples Portrait Photographic Experience of Sam & Melissa.

These to horse-loving locals packed up with truck and trailer with their animals and followed me out to a beautiful spot on the edge of the Madison Mountain range for an evening of trail riding, sipping cowboy coffee and enjoying a sunset campfire.

I love discovering what my clients love about each other and their relationship to create photographs that celebrate those loves.

For Melissa and Sam, working with horses is a passion between them and a lifestyle that these two fully embrace. What better way to capture that love than by creating our own trail ride to photograph them in their happy place. Our mountain spot was the perfect setting for their photographic experience.

As we settled into our mountainous environment, these two were quickly set at ease in front of my lens and we ended up making some great photos that encapsulate their relationship.

Below are some of their favorites from our time together.

These two are set to marry this summer. I couldn’t be more thrilled for them. Congrats to the newlyweds from Greener Visuals! -M

Back in October, I packed up my cameras and traveled northeast for the Bellingham Washington Family Portrait Photographic Experience of Kim and Daniel and their two girls. Upon my arrival into Seattle, we loaded up their Subaru and made a day trip north to the small coastal town near the Canadian border where we explored the beaches, rainforests, parks, the local farmers market and the surrounding college town community.

It was great to have another opportunity to photograph this awesome family.

Years ago, before kiddo number two came into the picture, I photographed these guys here in Bozeman, Montana as they were traveling through town.

This time it was fun to explore their home turf.

A new photographic canvas to work with. Bellingham is a beautiful place and I had a great time with these guys.

Here are some of my favorite images from my time with them. -M

Back in late May, I had the pleasure of photographing Bozeman Montana Maternity Family Portraits of Lacey and Rory.

These two were so excited about their new family. We decided to hike around the “M” Trail at the edge of the Bridger Mountains just outside of downtown Bozeman.

Man, I love the summer time!

The evening light made for not only a lovely walk but also prime light for making some lovely photographs amongst the endless hillsides covered in yellow Arrowleaf Balsamroot.

We had a great time.

Here are some of my favorite images from the day. So excited for your new family you guys. Congrats! -M

A few weeks back I drove out to create a Helena Montana Couples Portrait Photographic Experience of Marissa and Tyler, my wedding clients.

With the building excitement of their fast approaching wedding day in Virginia City, Montana, we wanted to create fun couples portraits of them, highlighting their life in Helena together.

In between their busy jobs working at our state capital for the governor of Montana, they frequently take walks around the various trail systems around Helena and they wanted to have their portrait experience in one of their favorite outdoor settings. We decided to check out the Old Shooting Range Trailhead just outside of town.

We spent a couple of hours exploring the hillsides, playing with their pup and making some fun photos of them in the beautiful wooded mountainous scenery.

Here are a few of my favorite photographs from our time together. I can not wait to celebrate these two in August. -M

Missouri Breaks State Park Engagement Photo Session

A few weeks back I had the pleasure of heading over to the Three Forks, Montana area to create the Missouri Headwaters State Park Portrait Photographic Experience of Dani and John.

These two were the winning recipients of my Portrait Photographic Experience contest at this year’s 2017 A Montana Wedding Event at The Commons in Bozeman Montana. After learning more about them and their relationship together, we decided to have their portrait experience at one of their favorite places to hike.

It’s a beautiful spot with a mixture of rocky cliffs and grasslands that overlook the confluence of the Jefferson and Madison Rivers where they form the mighty Missouri River.

These two are all set to be married in the summer of 2018 and I couldn’t be more excited for them.

Here are some of my favorites from our time together. -M

Rocky Creek Farm Styled Wedding Photo Session of Tara and Sky

With the help from some fellow wedding vendors, we created a Rocky Creek Farm Styled Wedding Photography Session in under 24 hours time.

The idea sprouted last Tuesday as I was talking on the phone with my friends Jacy and Matt, owners of Gallatin Valley Botanical. I’ve been photographing and supporting their local organic farm here in Gallatin Valley for the last couple of years now.

They mentioned that they would soon be taking over management of the popular Rocky Creek Farm (another farm down the road from theirs) and in addition to farming the increased acreage of land, they would also be pushing to make it a successful new farm wedding venue. While gathering material together for their wedding advertisement for this past weekend’s Bozeman Bridal Walk, they realized they would need some wedding photography to showcase their new venue to prospective wedding clients.

I told them I could help. The answer…

We decided to have a Rocky Creek Farm Styled Wedding Photography Session. The next day.

Our time was short. We set our photo shoot time for 2 pm the following afternoon and let them know I would take care of everything. After hanging up the phone, I sprung into action. First and foremost, we would need models. I decided to get in touch with my engaged friends Sky and Tara and invited them to be my models for the afternoon. Thankfully, they agreed.

If we were going to have a properly styled wedding photo shoot, we would need to make our volunteer models look amazing.

In need of obtaining a fine suit and beautiful wedding dress for my models to flaunt, I called upon the talents of Persnickety Formal Wear owner Anne Porter. In between all of her fittings for the busy prom season, she happily agreed and got Sky and Tara outfitted with some classy wedding attire.

For their hair and makeup, I stopped into Indulgence to have my friend, the lovely Deirdre Quinn, see to it that Tara looked radiant as a bride for our Rocky Creek Farm Styled Wedding Photography Session

It all came together so well. In all, we organized our impromptu wedding photo shoot in under 24 hours.

Our styled wedding photography shoot turned out awesome.

The Wednesday morning rain clouds had subsided by the time of our two-hour photo shoot commenced, and we were given a nice, calm weather window to utilize.

It turns out Rocky Creek Farms has a lot to offer both in capacity and scenery.

We photographed varies canvases of old barn wood backdrops, orchards and open farmland accompanied with views of the Bridger Mountains in the distance. We even took photo opportunities along the on-property spring creek.

I could have photographed there for hours.

We even utilized a few baby lambs and my new labrador puppy, Tippet, to be featured in our photo shoot.

It was a perfect way to spend a Montana afternoon. None of this could have happened without the hustle and team effort by all the vendors who worked together to make something special on such short notice. I’m so grateful for their willingness, enthusiasm, and professionalism.

Congrats to Sky and Tara on their engagement and well wishes to Matt and Jacy and they grow their new wedding venue out at Rocky Creek Farms! -M

Last week I met up with Kim and Preston at the Lark Hotel in downtown Bozeman where we loaded up into my Subaru and headed for the mountains to photograph their engagement photos. These two both work and live in Washington D.C. but were in town to finish up their destination wedding planning details and to do their engagement photo session with me. These two were up for an adventure. We drove through the small fly fishing town of Ennis, Montana and we took advantage of the open space south of town where the sunset and the scenic views of the Madison River valley collide in a fantastic Montana scene. Here are some of my favorites from our time together. I’ll be photographing their wedding at the Big Yellow Barn this May. I am looking forward to it. -M

Back in November, I met up with Jessica and Matt to make some Fall family portraits of them and their 1-year-old daughter Cora. I made maternity photos of Jessica a while back and now that Cora had been born, she and Matt wanted to get their first family photos for their Christmas cards. We headed over to a park near their house in Bozeman where we took advantage of the fallen fall leaves. When photographing little kids, you tend to have brief windows of attention. Most of the time their surroundings hold their attention rather than looking into a camera. It becomes a fun game getting them to smile and look natural before their patience runs thin and they start to fuss. Cora made my job easy. She was nothing but smiles, a trait she no doubt got from her parents. Here are some favorite photos I made during our time together. Thanks for looking, -M

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Gallatin County 2015 Holiday Party Photos

As a young business owner, I believe it’s important to give back my time and skill sets to enrich and benefit my community. It was one of the many things I took pride in over the last decade photographing for community newspapers across the company. Telling the stories of others in my community. It is one of my passions. Now as a full-time self-employed wedding, editorial, and commercial photographer, opportunities to interact with the public, like my time working as a journalist, don’t come around as much. Supporting and donating my photography skill set to benefit local non-for-profits is a service I am grateful to provide.

About week before the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Gallatin County‘s 2015 holiday party for the kids, their families and the mentors of the program, I was contacted by Valerie Erwin, Marketing and Outreach Coordinator of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Gallatin County. She was in a bind, short on time and needed a photographer to document the fun in photos at their annual holiday party. I was happy to help. I headed over to the Gallatin County Fairgrounds and set up my portable photo studio, setting the stage for the party attendees to have some fun. This crowd was a hoot. I love documenting humans at play. We all had a great time and I came away with some fun photos from the event. Here are some favorites. Happy to support such a great local organization. Merry Christmas everyone! -M

Downtown Bozeman Montana Engagement Photo Session of Kiera and Collin

Last week I met up with my wedding clients Kiera and Collin in downtown Bozeman for their engagement photo session. I’ll be kicking off my 2016 wedding photography season when I get to document their wedding celebration in early January at the Gallatin River Lodge here in Bozeman, Montana. For their engagement shoot, we explored some of the more colorful exteriors of the downtown Bozeman business scene. Cool temperatures and good light made for some nice portraits. Here are some of my favorite photos from our session. Looking forward to January! -Mike Greener

Hyalite Canyon Winter Engagement Photo Session of Heather & Andrew

A few weeks back I got to meet and photograph Heather & Andrew for their winter engagement photo session at Hyalite Canyon outside of Bozeman, Montana. I’ll be photographing their 2016 wedding day at Chico Hot Springs next April and while they were in town for Thanksgiving with family, we found a window of time to drive to the nearby majestic rocky mountain canyon. The snow had just recently fallen a couple days before and now cast a white blanket across the surrounding Hyalite Reservoir and Gallatin National Forest. It was a cool ice covered scene to explore. With the mixed overcast clouds, I was able to play with the cooler winter color palette of the Montana landscape. These two were a lot of fun. I appreciate a wedding couple that is up for an adventure. I’m looking forward to documenting their wedding celebration this Spring. Congrats on your engagement you guys! -Mike

The other day I was able to meet up with my wedding clients Courtney and Jordi from Big Sky to make some engagement photos of them before their wedding happening later this summer. Rainy, springtime Montana weather had unfortunately postponed our two prior meetups. Alas, we finally found our weather window and spent some time utilizing the green Montana landscape and abundant wildflowers around Peet’s Hill and the surrounding bike trail system. We rode our bikes around to different spots. These two were all about having an adventure. I’m looking forward to documenting their big day later this summer. Congrats on your engagement you guys! -M

Check out more photos from their engagement photo session here.

Wedding season is upon us here in the Big Sky state and I’ve been having a lot of engagement photo sessions lately. Last week I met up with Bobbi Jean and Chris at the Triple Tree trailhead in Bozeman Montana to photograph their engagement photo session. Engagement photos sessions come complimentary with all of my wedding collections. I like it because it gives me and my clients a chance to get to know one another before their wedding day and make some fun photos in the process. The two brought along their dogs as we hiked and explored the popular Bozeman trail system. Knowing Chris worked as a logger and Bobbi Jean as an employee of Yellowstone National Park, I wanted to photograph them in their element. From their, we ventured over to the wood shop of Montana Wildwoods artist and friend Tom Benedict where we played amongst his juniper tree sculptures. These two were great and I’m looking forward to photographing their wedding at the Old Faithful Inn later this summer. A fun day. -M

Last Friday afternoon, I had the pleasure of photographing Kerry and Jarod’s engagement photos up around Manhattan and Three Forks Montana. I met Kerry at the 2015 A Montana Wedding: The Bridal Event back in early March. These two were fun and up for an adventure. We got out of town and headed west. I always enjoyed my visits to those two Montana towns. Good people and breath-taking Montana countryside. These two are getting married later this summer. Congrats on your engagement you guys! -M

Last week I met up with Samantha & Jonathan for an afternoon winter engagement photo session here in Bozeman. These two Manhattan, Montana natives hired me to photograph their wedding day this upcoming August and wanted to showcase the winter Montana landscape into their engagement photo session. We decided to take advantage of the wonderful winter evening light we’ve been having lately here in the Big Sky country and walked around the historic Story Mill area and Gardner Park in Bozeman for a couple hours. This time of year, the outdoor color palette yields a lovely mixture of golds, oranges, and blues and I wanted to maximize it. These two had a great attitude and were up for a fun adventure. Our photo session time went quickly as we enjoyed exploring the landscape and getting to know each other. These two are great. I’m thrilled with how their photographs turned out and I’m looking forward to photographing their big day later this summer. Congrats on your engagement you guys! -M

Last week had the opportunity to venture out into the surprisingly mild Montana winter weather with my wedding clients Julia and Peter for a fun afternoon engagement photo session around Bozeman. These two have had this great park near their home in Bozeman where they often walk their dogs and we started our photo outing there. I loved the winter color palette of blues, greys and oranges standing out from the white snow blanketing the ground. I was really pleased with the results. These two are great. A fun day outside in the Big Sky. Looking forward to photographing their 2015 wedding day at Chico Hot Springs in June. Stay tuned. -M
